Is Tata’s Nano car factory at Singur jinxed?

Kolkata, Sept 18, 2008: Tata’s Nano car factory at Singur seems to be jinxed. Ever since the largest and most diversified Indian group announced to build its small car factory at Singur in West Bengal, it is continuously facing agitation.

Agitation at Singur has not stopped ever since. Mamta Banerjee, Trinamool Congress chief is leading the agitation from front.

A number of other NGOs have also joined the agitation besides the local farmers.

As soon as it seems that there is some movement towards resolution of the issue, something crops in, and agitation begins again.

Just last week, when West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Trinamool chief Mamta Banerjee met on the initiative of the West Bengal governor and announced that the two reached an agreement on issue, there was hope that finally the issue is resolved.

But within a few days, it dawned that actually there was no unanimity on the issue between the two parties and agitation was launched once again.

In the meantime several state governments have offered land to Tata for setting up Nano car factory. The latest state to make an offer was Karnataka government.
